Project overview
The owners had bronze gutters and did not want a black guard line running across the front of the house, so we matched the guard finish to the existing trough.
Five separate runs were cleaned, flushed and guarded, including the low return over the porch where the previous foam inserts had been holding moisture against the metal.

Matching guard color to existing bronze trim
Most guard installations are fitted in whatever color the supplier stocks, and on a house with dark bronze gutters and matching trim that reads as a bright silver line along the whole roof edge. Here the panel was ordered in bronze to match what was already on the building — the photographs show it sitting in the trough with the guard, the gutter and the fascia trim all reading as one line from the ground.
The function is the same as any perforated panel. It keeps leaf and needle debris out of the trough while letting water through the punched holes, and it turns routine clearing into occasional checking. The color is purely about the elevation, and on a brick house with bronze detailing it is the difference between a gutter you notice and one you do not.
The reason the owner called was not appearance, though. The trough had been holding damp debris long enough to stay wet between rain events, and a bronze-coated trough that stays damp on the inside will start to fail at the seams and around the hanger fixings.
So the run was cleared and flushed and the flow checked before any panel was laid. Guard over a wet debris layer traps the moisture against the metal, which accelerates exactly the problem it was bought to solve.
Panels were cut to the gutter profile, tucked under the bottom shingle course, lapped with the direction of flow and fixed along the front lip at even centers, with the stop ends closed off so nothing funnels in at the corners.
The problem, and the result
Before: Failed foam inserts holding moisture in the trough.
After: Color-matched guards across every run.
