Project overview
This house has several separate roof planes at different heights, which meant guards had to be fitted run by run rather than in one continuous pass.
Each section was cleaned, flushed and then guarded, including the short return over the bay window where debris had been collecting worst of all.

Guards across several rooflines and a valley
The front elevation of a house is the simple case for guard work. This one was not that — the roof steps and turns, so there are several separate runs at different heights and a valley discharging onto one of them. Each run had to be measured and cut on its own, and the junctions between them are where the thinking goes.
A valley concentrates the flow from two roof planes into a narrow band and delivers it to the gutter at speed. Standard guard laid straight through under a valley can shed that jet clean over the front of the trough, so the gutter ends up dry and the ground below stays wet, which looks like a blocked gutter and is the opposite. The panel at the valley outfall was set and secured with that in mind.
The change in roof height matters for the same reason. Where an upper run discharges onto a lower one, the lower gutter takes a point load rather than an even spread, and that is the section where debris and water both concentrate.
Every run was cleared and flow-checked before any panel went down. Perforated aluminum was cut to profile, tucked at the back, lapped with the direction of flow and fixed along the front lip at even centers — visible in the photographs as the line of fixings down the length of the guard.
Corners and stop ends were closed off rather than left open, since an unfinished end on a guard run is simply an entry point that funnels debris to one spot.
The problem, and the result
Before: Debris collecting worst on short, awkward runs.
After: Consistent guard coverage across every roofline.
